AAP’s Sanjay Singh Out Of Tihar After 6 Months, Says “Jail Ke Taale Tootenge, Hamare Saare Neta Chhutenge”

AAP leader Sanjay Singh was released from Tihar Jail on Wednesday following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him bail in the Delhi excise policy case. He had been incarcerated since October last year after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in connection with a money laundering probe related to alleged irregularities in the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.

A sizable crowd of AAP supporters gathered outside Tihar Jail to welcome Singh upon his release. Earlier in the day, a Delhi court instructed Singh not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses in the case. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja also mandated Singh to surrender his passport, provide his itinerary before leaving the National Capital Region (NCR), and ensure that his phone’s location services remain active.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Singh after the ED expressed no objections. Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and P B Varale ruled that Singh could resume his political activities but refrain from making statements regarding the case. The bench stated, “In the morning session, ASG SV Raju was asked to obtain instructions. He states they have no objections if Sanjay Singh is released on bail in proceedings arising out of the FIR… In view of the statement made, we allow the present appeal and direct that Sanjay Singh be released on bail during pendency of trial on terms and conditions set by the trial court.”

Sanjay Singh’s release provides some relief to the AAP, whose key leaders, including party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, are currently in judicial custody. AAP leaders have alleged that the liquor scam case against them is based on statements “extorted” from witnesses and approvers.

Kejriwal, who also serves as the Delhi chief minister, was arrested on March 21 by the ED and is slated to remain in judicial custody until April 15. He has criticized the timing of his arrest, arguing that it undermines the foundational principles of the Constitution, including the principles of free and fair elections and a level playing field.
