The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its first list of 20 candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections, scheduled for October 5. This move comes as pre-poll alliance discussions with the Congress continue. The list includes 11 constituencies where the Congress has already announced its candidates, raising doubts about the alliance.

AAP had been seeking 10 seats from the Congress, but the Congress was willing to offer only three. With the release of the list, an alliance between the two parties now seems unlikely.

Key Candidates Announced

Prominent candidates from AAP’s list include Bijender Hooda from Rohtak, Anurag Dhandha from Kalayat, and Vikas Nehra from Meham. The seats where AAP and Congress candidates will clash include Uchana Kalan, Meham, Rohtak, and Naraingarh.

AAP’s Haryana state unit chief, Sushil Gupta, said they have not received any updates on the alliance from Congress. He added that if no information is received by the end of the day, AAP will release the names of all 90 candidates.

Internal Rift in AAP

Earlier in the day, Ranjit Uppal, AAP’s district president from Panchkula, resigned and joined the BJP. Uppal expressed frustration over the party’s delay in announcing candidates and its attempts to form a seat-sharing agreement with Congress. He had hoped to contest from the Kalka seat, but the BJP had already announced its candidate.

Uppal joined BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma. Sharma’s mother, Shakti Rani Sharma, is the BJP candidate from Kalka.

This development highlights the internal discontent within AAP as it navigates a possible alliance while preparing for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
