It’s Sunday and we are here to present you one of the great stories of Indian citizens that has brought smiles on several faces through their work and humanity. Recently, a video of a man offering a free helmet to a bike rider on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway went viral on social media. The man received tremendous praise from the netizens for his selfless act. This is the story of the popularly known, the “Helmet Man of India,” Raghvendra Kumar, who is from Bihar and took on a mission to distribute free helmets approx nine years ago after his roommate and close friend died in an accident after a tanker hit his bike from behind on the Yamuna Expressway.

The viral video shows how the Helmet Man, Raghvendra driving his car on the Lucknow Expressway, wearing a helmet even inside and then slowly brings his car to a halt in front of a bike rider who was riding on the expressway without a helmet. Now, the inspiring and humanitarian work starts here, as Raghvendra offers the biker a brand-new helmet and schools him not to travel or drive without wearing his bike.

How he arranged his resources?
As of now, Raghvendra Kumar has distributed moreover 56,000 helmets across the entire nation through his campaign. Despite the good work, he always went through difficulties to sustain his campaign. In order to arrange the helmets, he even sold his Greater Noida apartments and took a loan using his wife’s jewellery as collateral.

Union Minister & celebs laud Raghvendra
Taking notes from his initiative, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari has lauded and appreciated his efforts to provide knowledge and free helmet to those who drive without them. Apart from the union minister, several celebrities including Sonu Sood – who is also known for his philanthropic endeavours have praised him for the same.
Speaking to the media, he said, “Call me madman, but I’ll continue in my endeavour for road safety. In the next few weeks, I’ll shift back to my ancestral village Bhadari in Bihar’s Kaimur district as I can’t sustain the expense of buying a helmet and taking care of my family simultaneously. I have a six-year-old son (Ansh Singh) whom I planning to get admitted to a government-run school in my village as a cost-cutting measure, but I’ll continue to buy helmets and save lives.”
Earlier, he has been legal advisor to many MNCs (multinational companies) to many multinational companies before he became a full-time road safety volunteer.
