Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Monday led the nation in extending greetings on the 87th Raising Day of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), paying tribute to the courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication of its personnel in safeguarding India’s unity and internal security.

In a post on X, the Vice President said the CRPF has made an invaluable contribution to protecting the nation’s unity, integrity and internal security through exemplary courage, professionalism and steadfast commitment. He added that the nation salutes the force’s brave personnel for their valour, sacrifice and unwavering devotion to duty.

Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the CRPF’s remarkable legacy, stating that the force has achieved countless milestones since its establishment by successfully meeting every challenge to strengthen India’s internal security. He highlighted the CRPF’s decisive role in combating Left-Wing Extremism and safeguarding the country’s peace and progress, while paying tribute to the personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Government established the force as the Crown Representative’s Police on 27 July 1939 and renamed it the Central Reserve Police Force under the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949 after India’s Independence.

Today, the CRPF serves as the country’s largest Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The CRPF plays a crucial role in maintaining internal security, combating insurgency and Left-Wing Extremism, assisting states in maintaining law and order, securing elections and responding to emergencies, making it one of the key pillars of India’s national security framework.
