Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday outlined an ambitious roadmap for India’s development, saying bigger dreams and firm resolve were essential to accelerating the country’s progress.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, PM Modi highlighted major initiatives in nuclear energy, deep-sea exploration, energy security, solar power, railway electrification and hydrogen technology.
PM Modi said a nation’s progress depends not only on its resources but on its ability to think ambitiously and strengthen its capabilities.
PM Modi said big dreams accelerate development, setting a 100 GW nuclear power target by 2047 and announcing five new reactors. He highlighted plans to expand deep-sea exploration.
On energy security, the Prime Minister highlighted the expansion of piped gas infrastructure. He said the number of cities with piped gas access had increased from 70 before 2014 to 700 over the past 12 years, with nearly two crore households now receiving piped gas.
The Prime Minister pointed to India’s growth in solar energy, saying capacity had risen from 2 GW to 107 GW.
The target of providing rooftop solar systems to 50 lakh homes has been achieved, helping households reduce their electricity expenses.
PM Modi highlighted the rapid expansion of railway electrification, saying the share of electrified rail routes had risen sharply over the past decade and reached complete electrification. He cited India’s progress in hydrogen technology, including the introduction of the country’s first hydrogen-powered train.
These initiatives form part of the government’s broader vision of building Viksit Bharat by 2047, with a focus on technological self-reliance, energy security, infrastructure development and ambitious national targets.
