80th Independence Day: PM Modi Says India Moved From ‘Fragile Five’ To Fastest-Growing Major Economy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted India’s economic transformation over the past 12 years, saying the country has moved from being counted among the ‘Fragile Five’ economies to becoming the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, PM Modi credited citizens across the country for driving this change.

PM Modi said people from all sections of society, including the poor, middle class, youth, women, tribals and communities across different regions, had contributed to India’s progress through determination and dedication. He said the efforts had helped 25 crore people emerge from poverty.

Reflecting on India’s economic journey after Independence, the Prime Minister said the country had always harboured big ambitions, but its progress often did not match the desired pace. He recalled how the global community once placed India among the ‘Fragile Five’ economies.

PM Modi said India had now moved forward with greater speed and confidence. He asserted that the collective resolve of 140 crore Indians would continue to drive the country’s development.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s advances across several sectors, including defence production, garment and electronics manufacturing, railways, digital technology and innovation. He said these developments reflected the country’s growing capabilities and economic strength.

PM Modi linked India’s economic progress to its broader development vision, reiterating the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, when India completes 100 years of Independence. He said the vision of Viksit Bharat would require the collective contribution, efforts and participation of 140 crore citizens.

The Prime Minister stressed that India’s transformation over the past 12 years demonstrated the potential of the country and its people to achieve ambitious national goals.
