50,000 weddings to be held in UP under CM’s community wedding program

The Chief Minister’s Community Wedding Program is set to host close to 50,000 weddings in Uttar Pradesh during December and January.

11,489 weddings have already occurred this year, falling short of the 1,09,883 weddings that are planned for 2023–2024.

“So far, we have received 68,825 applications and every day, 1,000 more are submitted online. The government plans weddings for impoverished, needy families—including widows, divorced, and abandoned women—under this program. Under this program, people from underprivileged communities and SCs also gain benefits. A government representative, such as an MP, a minister, or an MLA, is present at every such event, according to a government spokesperson.

The government places Rs 35,000 into the account of the girl getting married as part of a community wedding program.

Each couple receives separate gifts worth Rs 10,000 that include clothing, jewellery, cutlery, and other items. Goods valued at Rs 5,000 are given to widows, abandoned women, and divorced women, and each couple also receives an additional Rs 6,000.

Asim Arun, the minister of social welfare, recently declared that all program applications must now be submitted online; offline applications have been discontinued in an effort to preserve program transparency.

While this system has solved the issue of middlemen, SMS is used to convey wedding specifics, such as the date and time.

“The department has received 68,825 online applications since August. The spokesman stated that all girls taking part in the scheme must also have bank accounts that are currently connected to their Aadhaar.
