Basti: Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) apprehended two people on Monday who are believed to be part of an international drugs smuggling group carrying 8.29 kg of opium worth around Rs 1 crore in the international market, according to authorities.
Mukesh Kumar and Deependra Kumar were caught while attempting to import opium from Nepal to Lucknow, according to reports. The two suspects are from Champaran, Bihar, and have been involved in drug smuggling for a long time, officials added.

They were caught on a tip from the Sadar police station area while transporting the cargo in a vehicle, they added.
According to Superintendent of Police Gopal Krishan Chaudhury, the two detained have been charged with violating the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are being held in jail.
