16 Died, Around 20 Buried After Temple Collapsed In Shimla Post Landslide

Temple in the Summer Hill neighbourhood of Shimla city, while seven others perished in a cloudburst disaster that occurred in the Solan district last night.

Two landslides in Shimla city are believed to have buried 15 to 20 persons, according to Deputy Shimla Commissioner Aditya Negi.

Following the cloudburst at Solan’s Mamligh village of Kandaghat subdivision, six persons were saved.  Two homes and one cowshed were lost in the flood.

Gaurav Singh, the superintendent of police in Solan, identified the deceased as Harnam (38), Kamal Kishore (35), Hemlata (34), Rahul (14), Neha (12), Golu (8), and Raksha (12).

In a tweet, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed sympathy and said he has ordered the government to provide the affected families with all the help and support they need.

I send the bereaved families my sincere sympathies. The Chief Minister’s Office tweeted, “We share in your suffering and sadness at this trying moment.

The Chief Minister broke the heartbreaking news that nine bodies had been discovered in the wreckage of the Shimla temple just 1.5 hours later.

The “Shiv Mandir” at Summer Hill in Shimla fell as a result of the severe rain, according to distressing news that has just come out of the city.

Nine bodies have already been found as of now. The local government is working aggressively to remove the rubble in order to rescue anyone who may still be trapped.

The state’s emergency operations centre reports that 752 highways were shut down in the state as a result of the disaster.

The Chief Minister announced on Sunday that all educational institutions in the hill state will be closed today because to the danger heavy rain poses to pupils. He also claimed he has spoken to all district collectors in the state to get their opinions on the destruction.

He was also told about the damage done by landslides and the closure of the traffic networks. In light of the impending severe rains, the Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and all DCs to keep a careful eye on the situation. According to the Chief Minister, the administrative staff should be vigilant and maintain efficient preparations for roads, energy, and water.

The state’s Department of Education announced the cancellation of all upcoming tests for Post Graduate courses, including the B.Ed exams set for August 14.

It is quite possible that Sunday’s moderate to heavy rainfall will continue across much of the state, with isolated areas of Chamba, Kangra, Hamirpur, Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Kullu, and Sirmaur seeing very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

Additionally, it predicted unusually severe rainfall at isolated locations in Beas, Ranjit Sagar, and the catchment area of the Pong dam.

Due to the floods and landslides, Himachal Pradesh has been the worst-affected state in the nation. On Sunday, officials announced a startling loss of 7020.28 crore as a result of the monsoon’s disastrous impact.

On June 24, the Himachal Pradesh monsoon season began. 257 lives were lost during the monsoon, according to the officials, for a variety of reasons.

In the state, 1,376 homes have suffered damage, while the monsoon havoc has already partially damaged 7,935 homes.

The officials reported that 2,727 cow barns and 270 establishments had suffered damage due to the rain.

Official statistics show that the state has experienced 55 flash flood incidents and 90 landslides thus far. While the state still has approximately 450 closed roads, including 2 National Highways. According to the officials, 1,814 electricity supply projects and 59 water supply schemes are still hindered.
