Delhi Police have activated an extensive security plan for the 18th BRICS Summit, which New Delhi will host on September 12 and 13.
The force has worked with several agencies to protect summit venues, airports, hotels and other locations connected with visiting leaders and foreign delegations.
Special Commissioner of Police (Protective Security Division) Manish Kumar Agrawal said officials have designed the arrangements to protect heads of state, heads of government, Ministers and foreign representatives while keeping disruption to daily life as low as possible.
Police have begun informing residents about temporary restrictions along routes that VVIP convoys will use.
Officials stressed that they will regulate traffic only during specified movement periods rather than shut the routes completely.
Agrawal appealed to commuters to check the advisories and adjust their travel plans to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
Security teams have inspected VVIP routes and implemented preventive measures to counter possible sabotage attempts.
At Bharat Mandapam, officials have strengthened access control, verification, surveillance and emergency response systems.
Delhi Police have coordinated with neighbouring states to monitor movements and act on intelligence inputs received ahead of the summit.
Authorities have mobilised nearly 15,000 Delhi Police personnel for the event. They have, however, deployed around 200 companies of paramilitary forces to support the security operation.
The deployment will cover summit locations and accommodation facilities. It will also extend to airports and other sites where visiting dignitaries may hold planned or unexpected meetings.
Police have prohibited unauthorised sub-conventional aerial platforms during the summit.
Agrawal said security personnel would classify any unauthorised aerial platform detected in the restricted airspace as a rogue drone.
Delhi Police have strengthened counter-drone and aerial security measures in coordination with the Indian Air Force and the National Security Guard. The measures aim to tackle potential threats throughout the international summit.
