On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, in New Delhi.
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between India and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), particularly in areas linked to social and economic development.
PM Modi recalled the work of the late Aga Khan IV and his contribution to development initiatives. He and Prince Rahim discussed opportunities to expand the partnership in healthcare, agriculture, rural development, youth and women’s empowerment.

The meeting came as Prince Rahim began a seven-day visit to India following an invitation from Vice President CP Radhakrishnan.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Prince Rahim. Their discussions covered the AKDN’s work in social development and heritage conservation, along with possibilities for further cooperation in India and other countries.

Prince Rahim will likely remain in India until September 15. His programme includes meetings with senior Indian leaders and visits to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad, where the Aga Khan Development Network has ongoing development and community initiatives.
The visit is Prince Rahim’s first to India since he became the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. He assumed the position in February 2025 after the death of his father, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV. His succession followed the established Shia Imami Ismaili tradition.
The visit provides an opportunity for India and the AKDN to review existing projects and identify new areas of collaboration in development and heritage preservation.
