Prime Minister Modi will be in Assam for two days, during which he will participate in multiple programmes.
The Bagurumba performance is likely to emerge as one of the visit’s highlights, bringing indigenous culture into the national spotlight.
Bagurumba, popularly known as the ‘butterfly dance’, is among the most graceful and significant folk dances of Assam.
Deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual life of the Bodo people, it symbolises harmony with nature, fertility, peace and joy.
Traditionally performed by young women, its flowing hand movements and gentle footwork reflect the flight of butterflies and the community’s close bond with nature.
Closely associated with the Bwisagu festival marking the Bodo New Year and the arrival of spring, Bagurumba has evolved into a powerful symbol of cultural identity.
Cultural experts view the large-scale performance as a major step towards preserving and promoting traditional art forms.
As Assam prepares for the event, it will leave a lasting impression, reinforcing unity through tradition and cultural diversity.
