Every day, approximately 100-150 suspected cases are tested, with approximately five patients testing positive each week. There are currently no Covid-19 patients in hospitals. The city is well-prepared and vigilant in the event of a future Covid-19 wave.”

China’s Covid Surge: PTI report

According to a PTI report on Wednesday, two cases have been reported from Gujarat, while one case has been reported from Odisha. Despite the discovery of three cases of this variant in India, there has been no overall increase in Covid cases in the country.

On Wednesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presided over a Covid-19 review meeting, where experts said there is a need for ongoing surveillance to keep track of existing and emerging variants.

Scientists have issued a warning that a new strain of Covid has been discovered and is rapidly spreading around the world.

According to reports, the variant BF. 7, also known as BA. 5.2.1.7, accounts for one-quarter of Covid cases in Belgium and 10% of cases in Denmark, France, and Germany.

The World Health Organization predicts a “challenging” autumn and winter due to “reduced virus surveillance,” such as the lifting of restrictions and increased social mixing.

SHOULD INDIANS BE CONCERNED ABOUT OMICRON BF.7 CASES DETECTED?

The primary cause of the extreme increase in Covid cases and Covid-related deaths in China is thought to be Omicron variant BF.7. However, India has been detecting these strains and data from India’s SARS CoV 2 genomic surveillance programme, or INSACOG, for months.

As a result, experts aren’t too concerned about such cases making their way to India. This is because the few highly transmissible Omicron variants that are spreading across China are not particularly distinctive.
