The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has cautioned citizens against circulating a digitally altered video on social media that falsely depicts a train submerged in floodwaters.

Officials confirmed that people widely shared the video across platforms, but it is AI-generated and not linked to any real-life incident.

PIB used its official Fact Check handle to clarify that the content is entirely fabricated and to urge users to stop spreading it.

The bureau noted that such misleading visuals risk creating unnecessary panic and confusion among the public, particularly during times of natural calamities.

Taking to X, PIB Fact Check posted, “Digitally-Altered Video Alert! A video showing a train submerged in floodwaters is circulating on social media. #PIBFactCheck The video is AI-generated and does NOT depict any real incident. Refrain from sharing such content, potentially causing unnecessary fear and confusion. Always verify information from official sources. Stay informed. Stay responsible.”

Fact Check & Official Clarification

PIB’s clarification emphasised that the viral video is a product of artificial intelligence technology. Officials reiterated that no train has faced such a situation and that records show no railway incident resembling the visuals.

The bureau reminded citizens to cross-check content before forwarding, highlighting that misinformation has the potential to disrupt public order and erode trust in verified news sources.

Urging restraint, PIB called on social media users to remain vigilant and ensure authenticity before amplifying unverified claims.

It warned that sharing manipulated videos could contribute to widespread anxiety and miscommunication. The warning highlighted that this risk increases when such content is linked to sensitive matters such as disasters.

The statement also encouraged citizens to rely on official government channels. It further advised them to follow credible news organisations for updates on floods, weather conditions, or railway operations.

With the rise of AI-generated content, misinformation has become a growing concern in India and worldwide. The PIB’s intervention underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to curb fake news and enhance public awareness about digital safety.

Officials reiterated the importance of responsible social media use. They reminded users that staying informed through verified sources is crucial to preventing the spread of fear or false narratives.
