The Government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team has uncovered a deepfake video doing the rounds on social media.
The video falsely shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoting an investment platform promising extraordinary returns.
The fake clip claims that an investment of ₹21,000 can generate a monthly income of ₹3,50,000. A claim that PIB has categorically dismissed as fabricated and misleading.
The bureau confirmed that scammers digitally manipulated the video using AI tools to imitate the Prime Minister’s appearance and voice.
They did this deliberately to deceive the public.
In its official post on X, PIB Fact Check shared the doctored footage with a large ‘FAKE’ stamp superimposed across the visuals.

The bureau urged citizens not to fall for such scams.
Furthermore, it stresses the importance of verifying all investment-related information from reliable sources before acting on it.
Officials noted that this incident is part of a wider trend of AI-based misinformation observed in 2025.
Beware Deepfake Investment Scams Online
Over the past few months, scammers have increasingly used deepfake technology to exploit public trust in well-known personalities.
Furthermore, scammers have promoted fraudulent schemes such as ‘Quantum AI,’ ‘tax refund offers,’ and other get-rich-quick programs.
The government has warned that no authentic investment plan or official initiative guarantees fixed monthly returns.
To reinforce this point, it reminded citizens to avoid trusting or forwarding information from unofficial sources.
Consequently, experts alert the public that AI deepfakes are now so advanced that they often seem very realistic.
They advise users to cross-verify content, refrain from clicking on suspicious links, and report fake material to protect themselves from financial loss.
The PIB team concluded its message with an appeal to the public to be vigilant and to help curb the spread of misinformation.
Anyone who encounters suspicious or misleading online material can report it by tagging @PIBFactCheck on social media or sending an email to factcheck@pib.gov.in for verification.
