PIB Fact Check Debunks Viral Video Claiming Delhi Police Killed Five Protesters

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has debunked a viral video falsely claiming that Delhi Police opened fire on protesters during the 2026 demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, killing five workers.

In a post on X, PIB Fact Check labelled the claim fake, clarifying that the video being circulated is old, unrelated to the current protests and dates back to 2020. It further shared a link to a post by Delhi Police addressing the claim.

Delhi Police flagged the account @indiantiwari01, alleging that it had circulated doctored media and fabricated claims linked to the ongoing unrest over voter roll revisions.

The controversy comes as the Cockroach Janta Party and student groups stage protests demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Authorities have responded with detentions and restrictions as demonstrations continue.

PIB urged citizens to remain cautious about unverified social media posts, warning that misleading forwards can spread misinformation and cause unnecessary panic.

The fact-check serves as a reminder to verify the original source and date of viral footage before sharing it as evidence of current events.

Citizens should consult official fact-checking platforms and credible news sources to verify information and avoid falling prey to false claims.
