PIB Fact Check Debunks Fake Post On Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth’s Appointment

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has exposed a fabricated social media post that falsely alleges irregularities in the appointment process of Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth.

According to PIB, several Pakistani propaganda accounts have circulated an edited screenshot to spread misinformation online.

PIB stated that the manipulated image falsely presents itself as a screenshot of an article published by The Wire.

The fact-checking authority clarified that the publication has never carried any such report concerning Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth’s appointment.

Officials said that individuals had digitally altered the screenshot to create a misleading narrative and falsely present it as content from the news platform.

The fake image also falsely attributes remarks to Lt Gen PR Shankar.

PIB stated that those behind the post fabricated the claims as part of an effort to spread misinformation on social media.

The fact-check unit urged users to exercise caution before sharing unverified content, particularly posts related to national institutions and public figures.

Through its official fact-checking initiative, PIB categorically labelled the circulated screenshot as fake and rejected the allegations contained within it.

The agency reiterated that no credible evidence supports the claims being shared online.

PIB further encouraged citizens to rely on verified sources when consuming information and to remain vigilant against misinformation campaigns designed to mislead the public.

The government has advised social media users to report suspicious or misleading content related to the Government of India to the PIB Fact Check team for verification.

Authorities continue to monitor and counter false narratives circulating across digital platforms in an effort to safeguard the integrity of public information.

The latest clarification serves as another reminder of the importance of verifying online content before accepting or sharing it as factual.
