PIB Fact Check Debunks AI Video Falsely Showing Nirmala Sitharaman Promoting Investment Scheme

The PIB Fact Check unit has debunked a fake social media post circulating an AI-generated video that falsely portrays Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promoting an investment scheme promising guaranteed returns.

According to PIB Fact Check, fraudsters are circulating the misleading video through a Facebook advertisement. They falsely claim that an initial investment of Rs 22,000 can generate an assured income of Rs 5 lakh per week and up to Rs 22 lakh per month.

The government clarified that fraudsters created the video using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and falsely portrayed the Finance Minister as endorsing the investment scheme.

PIB Fact Check stated that neither Nirmala Sitharaman nor the Government of India has endorsed, authorised or promoted the investment scheme or platform featured in the video.

The agency cautioned that fraudsters are increasingly using AI-generated content, fabricated endorsements and promises of extraordinary financial returns to deceive people into parting with their money or sharing sensitive personal and financial information. It advised the public to verify investment-related claims only through official government sources before making any financial commitments.

The agency also urged citizens to report suspicious or manipulated online content to PIB Fact Check to help curb misinformation and online financial fraud.
