The Indian Army on Saturday rejected reports claiming increased terrorist activity near the Line of Control (LoC) and an unusual military build-up in north Kashmir.

The Army’s fact-check account on X said a social media account was circulating false reports and linking them to claims that the military had asked residents to vacate houses near major garrisons in Kupwara and Baramulla districts.

The Army said the claims of increased terrorist activity and an ‘unusual Indian military build-up’ along the LoC were completely false. It urged people not to believe or amplify unverified information circulating on social media.

According to the Army, the account spreading the claims was a Pakistan-based propaganda account that had repeatedly circulated misleading information.

The Army said such posts attempted to create a false narrative about the security situation along the LoC.

The Army, however, cautioned social media users against accepting unverified militant claims or speculative reports about military activity without checking their authenticity.

In its post, the Army described the combination of unverified militant claims, unsupported military build-up allegations and speculative links between the two as misleading information.

The Army urged people to verify the source and authenticity of information before sharing or amplifying such reports on social media.

The clarification comes amid continued sensitivity around security developments along the LoC, where unverified reports can quickly spread through social media platforms and create confusion about the situation on the ground.
