Fact Check: Delhi Police Debunks Viral Death Claim Linked To NEET Protest

Delhi Police on Thursday urged citizens to verify information through official sources before sharing content on social media after false claims circulated about the death of a woman injured during the ongoing NEET paper leak protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

The advisory came after several social media posts falsely claimed that the woman had died following police action during Monday’s student protest.

Rejecting the rumours, Delhi Police confirmed that the woman is alive, in stable condition and undergoing treatment at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.

In a post on X, the police appealed to the public to exercise caution while consuming and forwarding online content, emphasising that responsible digital behaviour begins with verifying facts through official channels before sharing information, particularly during sensitive situations.

The police described the reports circulating online as ‘entirely false and misleading’ and reiterated that the injured woman remains under medical care.

Authorities urged people not to circulate unverified information that could create unnecessary panic or spread misinformation.

The advisory urged people to rely on official updates and avoid sharing unverified posts.

RML Hospital said the 21-year-old woman is conscious, breathing on her own and in stable condition, though she remains under critical care as authorities continue to caution against misinformation amid the NEET protests.
