X reversed the ban on Taylor Swift searches on Monday evening, after barring users from doing so following the spread of bogus sexually explicit photographs of the pop star on the social media platform last week.

On Monday, in a statement, the head of business operations at X, Joe Benarroch, stated, “The search has been reactivated and the social media platform will continue to be vigilant for any attempt to spread this content and will remove it if we find it”.

On Sunday afternoon, searches for Taylor Swift’s name on the social networking site formerly known as ‘Twitter’ yielded the error message, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”

X had described the measure as a temporary precaution taken with an ‘abundance of caution’.

According to the reports, one image of Swift, which was picked by Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ in 2023, shared on X was viewed 47 million times before the account was suspended.

The search ban comes after the White House chimed in on Friday, calling the fake photos alarming and emphasizing that social media companies must take responsibility for preventing the spread of such misinformation.
