Superstar Mohanlal is new president of the Association of Malayalam Movies Artistes(AMMA). The versatile actor has been selected second for 3 years unopposed.
Superstar Mohanlal election came following the close of nomination withdrawals on Tuesday.
Unni Mukundan, a rising star, was also chosen without opposition to the position of AMMA Treasurer.

On the other hand, there will be elections for the Joint Secretary, two Vice Presidents, and the General Secretary positions.
This time, longtime AMMA General Secretary Edavela Babu chose not to continue in that role, and well-known character actor Siddique ran for the position. However, Unni Shivapal and Kuku Paramaseshweran also joined the battle. Three people are running for the two Vice President positions: Jayan Cherthala, Manju Pillai, and veteran actor Jagdish.
Similarly, Anoop Chandran and Baburaj are competing for the position of Joint Secretary.
On June 30, in conjunction with the Annual General Body Meeting, there will be elections.
Meanwhile, sources claim that a panel headed by Paramaseshweran filed a nomination for the presidency, but this was later withdrawn, allowing Mohanlal to be chosen without opposition.
Out of the 506 members of the AMMA, about 120 receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 apiece. Anyone who is not receiving their monthly pension is qualified to run for any of the positions, including President and Committee Member.
