The Karnataka High Court granted bail to Kannada film actor Darshan Thogudeepa, his friend Pavithra Gowda, and seven others in the Renukaswamy murder case on December 13.
The actor was arrested on June 11 earlier this year. The reason behind allegedly killing Renukaswamy, his fan, on June 8 was sending obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda.
The actor was earlier kept at the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru, but when a photograph went viral showing him relaxing with some of his jail mates, he was soon transferred to Bailari Central Jail.
Moreover, on October 30, Darshan Thogudeepa received six weeks of interim bail from Karnataka HC on medical grounds for back surgery. During a hearing on Monday, when the court reserved its order, the prosecution argued that the actor had still not undergone back surgery and a regular bail could be misused.
On June 9, the body of 33-year-old Renukaswamy was discovered near a drain in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru, bearing multiple injuries. Police investigations revealed that Renukaswamy was abducted from Chitradurga and allegedly tortured before his death.
After this discovery, four individuals came up taking the responsibility for the murder over a financial dispute. However, inconsistencies in their statements led authorities to suspect a larger conspiracy.
Further investigations held actor Darshan, his associate Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others. However, by June 16, all aspects were arrested and produced before the court.
