‘Pathaan’ First Film Of The Year To Receive Several Cuts From The Censor Board

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham, has been a hot topic for a long time. The film has been in the spotlight since its teaser release. Following this, the song “Besharam Rang” was launched, which also sparked a lot of controversies.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Friday, 30 December 2022, advised the makers of the film to make some tweaks in the film, including in its songs, and submit a revised version, chairperson Prasoon Joshi has said.

The film recently reached the CBFC examination committee for certification. After a thorough examination process, as per the board’s guidelines, Joshi said that the board has directed Yash Raj Films (YRF) to implement the advised changes in the film including the songs, and submit the revised version prior to theatrical release.

Finally, Pathaan has been given a UA certificate with a 2 hours 26 minutes runtime after the changes. It will be available in theatres for the audience on 25 January 2023.

Pathaan Suffers More Than Ten Cuts

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan suffered more than 10 cuts from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), from demanding to replace RAW by Hamare to ordering that the seductive gestures of Deepika Padukone in Besharam Rang be removed.

At least three changes have made to the controversial song Besharam Rang – close-up shots of “buttocks, side-pose and sensuous dance movements during the lyrics Bahut Tang Kiya” have been removed.

The word ‘RAW’ was replaced with ‘Hamare’ and ‘Langde Lulle’ was removed and replaced with ‘Toote Foote’. The ‘PMO’  word was removed and the word ‘PM’ was replaced with either President or Minister at in 13 different places.

‘Mrs Bharatmata’ was changed to ‘Hamari Bharatmata’ and ‘Ashok Chakra’ was changed to ‘Veer Puraskar’. The ‘KGB’ was replaced with ‘SBU’. In one of the dialogues, the word ‘sotch’ was changed to drink. The text ‘Black Prison, Russia’ that appears in the film was replaced with ‘Black Prison’.

Many of Deepika’s scenes in Besharam Rang have been replaced with side poses owing to partial nudity. The seductive dance moves during the lines “Bahut Tang Kiya” in a song have been cut, and other shorts have been added in their place. However, there is no confirmation whether Deepika Padukone’s controversial orange bikini has been deleted by the censor board or not.

As a result, Pathaan has become the first film of the year 2023 to receive major edits from the censor board.

Earlier this week, Amazon Prime Video reportedly acquired the OTT rights to Pathaan for a whopping amount of Rs 100 crore. As per news reports, the movie may make an OTT debut in late March or early April. There is currently no official information available regarding the movie’s OTT release though.
