The Finland Embassy hosted the global premiere of National Film Award-winning director Kamakhya Narayan Singh’s new film, All I Want for Christmas. The movie sheds light on the devastating consequences of war through its poignant story.
Following the success of his previous feature film, Bhor, which garnered international acclaim. Singh’s latest work focuses on the emotional turmoil experienced by refugees, particularly a Ukrainian family fleeing the horrors of the ongoing war.
The film had its world premiere at the Finland Embassy in New Delhi, where ambassadors and diplomats from Ukraine and Norway were present. The screening was followed by a thought-provoking discussion on the theme of displacement caused by war.
It is essential to note that while India remains neutral in the conflict, advocating for a peaceful resolution through dialogue, NATO countries, continue to support Ukraine. As the war approaches its third year, the film resonates strongly with those affected by the ongoing crisis.
The film presents the broader issue of Ukrainian refugees, with Finland’s Ambassador to India, Kimo Lahdevirta, offering insights during the premiere. He shared that around 1 crore Ukrainian refugees have fled the war, with 70,000 seeking refuge in Finland.
Lahdevirta revealed that he has been separated from his own family for two years due to the conflict, underscoring the personal impact of the war.
Similarly, Norway’s Ambassador highlighted that 85,000 Ukrainian refugees are living in Norway, their lives torn apart by the conflict. Both ambassadors expressed solidarity with Ukraine, emphasizing the strength, hope, and unity of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity.
Meanwhile, the director Kamakhya Narayan Singh shared that through All I Want for Christmas, he aims to deliver a powerful message about making the world a more beautiful place.
By telling the story of Xenia and Anastasia, Singh hopes to evoke empathy and inspire people to support the creation of a world, free from the horrors of war.
