Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has urged the Muslim community to watch his upcoming film Haq, co-starring Yami Gautam.
The movie draws inspiration from the landmark Supreme Court case Mohd. Ahmed Khan v Shah Bano Begum. It explores faith, rights, and women’s empowerment.
Hashmi and Gautam share the screen for the first time in this intense drama. The trailer premiered on Monday in Mumbai. Speaking to the media, Emraan said the film carried extra responsibility for him as a Muslim actor.
“When I read the script, I approached it first as an actor,” Hashmi explained. “Then, I had to bring in the perspective of a Muslim. The case split the country between personal faith and constitutional rights. I wanted to ensure the director and writer stayed balanced and unbiased. Thankfully, the film is neutral.”
He added that audiences would find the movie strongly pro-women. “This film presents a liberal Muslim viewpoint. I think it is a remarkable work. Muslims should watch it because it will connect with them differently,” he said.
Haq follows a Muslim woman who fights the system to secure rights for herself and her children under Section 125. The story also tackles faith, identity, liberalism, and policy, including debates around the Uniform Civil Code under Article 44.
Produced by Junglee Pictures with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the film is directed by Suparn S Varma, known for his dynamic storytelling. Haq will hit theatres on 7 November 2025.
Moreover, the movie aims to spark discussions on legal rights, gender equality, and the intersection of religion and law. With timely themes, strong performances, and a clear social message, Haq promises to resonate across communities.
