Gadar 2, OMG 2
Exactly one year prior, despite having a very lucrative release window, both Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan failed to even achieve respectable box office results in Hindi. A year later, the Indian exhibition industry is enjoying good times because of Gadar 2 and OMG 2.
Gadar 2 is in second position, and OMG 2 is in eighth
OMG 2 had a respectable first day, whereas Gadar 2 had a strong debut. Early projections place the combined receipts for both films at around Rs 47–48 crores nett, with Gadar 2 accounting for roughly Rs 39 crores and OMG 2 for roughly Rs 9 crores net.
Anil Sharma’s action film starring Sunny Deol has had the second-best opening of 2023, while Amit Rai’s comedy starring Akshay Kumar has had the eighth-best opening. On a national and international basis, Pathaan has continued to hold the record for the best year-to-date opening for a Hindi film (in Hindi). Both Gadar 2 and OMG 2 are sequels to hugely popular films, but Gadar 2 clearly has an advantage in public culture. OMG 2 was rated A, unlike Gadar 2, which was rated U/A, which turned off family viewers. The Saturday box office numbers imply that both films will gain some ground after opening day.
