Ahan Shetty Joins ‘Border 2’; Follows Father Suniel’s Footsteps In War Drama

Actor Ahan Shetty joins the cast of Border 2, taking on a role that mirrors the one his father, Suniel Shetty, played in the original 1997 film Border.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ahan shared a collage of his father in Border and himself from the upcoming sequel, captioning it, “Har beta kahin na kahin apne baap jaisa banna chahta hai” (Every son wishes to be like his father).

Suniel responded with affection, calling Ahan a ‘chip of the old soul’.

Stellar cast & release date

Border 2 boasts a powerful ensemble including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Diljit Dosanjh.

Anurag Singh directs the sequel, with Gulshan Kumar, T-Series, and JP Dutta’s JP Films presenting it.

The film, which portrays events from the 1999 Kargil War, hits theatres on 23 January 2026—nearly three decades after the original.

The production of Border 2 faced temporary hurdles involving Diljit Dosanjh, who was under a non-cooperation order from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).

The order, linked to Diljit’s collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, has now been lifted solely for his participation in Border 2.

BN Tiwari, President of FWICE, stated that the decision came after producer Bhushan Kumar requested the federation to permit Diljit to complete the film due to the complexity of recasting at such an advanced stage of production.

Honouring the legacy of Border

JP Dutta directed the original Border, basing it on the 1971 Battle of Longewala, and cemented its place as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic war films.

The sequel aims to capture the same patriotic fervour, focusing on the Kargil conflict while introducing a new generation of talent.

Furthermore, Ahan Shetty’s inclusion adds an emotional and symbolic touch to the sequel, bridging two cinematic generations.

With high expectations from fans and industry insiders alike, Border 2 is shaping up to be a cinematic tribute to India’s armed forces and a continuation of one of Bollywood’s most revered war sagas.

Ahan’s debut in a patriotic drama aligns with his father’s legacy, promising both emotion and action on the big screen.
