The much-awaited 69th National Film Awards, a pinnacle of cinematic recognition in India, were unveiled on August 24th in the capital city of New Delhi. The announcement brought to the forefront a constellation of luminaries from the world of cinema, showcasing the seamless interplay of regional gems and Bollywood blockbusters. Amidst the backdrop of the film industry’s diversity, the awards highlighted exceptional talent across various categories.
This year marked a captivating contest between regional cinema and Bollywood, reflecting the rich tapestry of Indian filmmaking. The esteemed jury panel meticulously curated the list of winners for feature films, non-feature films, and exemplary screenwriting, and these names were handed over to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur. A total of 280 films in 28 languages were presented for consideration, encompassing 31 feature films, 24 non-feature films, and 3 outstanding screenplays.
Amongst the standout laurels, the Best Director award was bestowed upon Nikhil Mahajan for the Marathi masterpiece “Godavari”. Pankaj Tripathi emerged victorious as the Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Mimi”, while Pallavi Joshi’s exceptional performance in “The Kashmir Files” earned her the title of Best Supporting Actress. Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, “The Kashmir Files” also clinched the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film on National Integration.

Recognizing the sheer joy and wholesomeness cinema provides, the Telugu version of the multilingual film “RRR” claimed the coveted award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Meanwhile, “Rocktree: The Nambi Effect” secured the prestigious accolade of Best Feature Film, capturing hearts with its compelling narrative.
The visual and auditory elements of cinema were celebrated through awards such as Best Music Direction, which honoured the exceptional compositions of “Pushpa” and “RRR”. A testament to their transformative skills, the Best Make-up Artist award was won for “Gangubai Kathiawadi”, while the artistic brilliance of “Sardar Udham Singh” reigned supreme in the categories of Best Costume Designer, Best Production Designer, and Best Cinematography.
Notable performances were celebrated through awards to actors like Allu Arjun, who clinched the Best Actor title for “Pushpa The Rise”. The award for Best Actress was shared by Alia Bhatt for her role in “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and Kriti Sanon for her stellar performance in “Mimi”. Bhavin Rabari’s remarkable contribution as a child artist was also acknowledged.
