The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Maharashtra will hold its elections on November 20, while Jharkhand will conduct voting in two phases on November 13 and 20. The results for both states will be declared on November 23.
Key Election Details and Timelines
Maharashtra has 288 assembly seats, while Jharkhand has 81. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated that the notification for Maharashtra elections will be issued on October 22. Nominations will open the same day and close on October 29. Scrutiny of nominations is set for October 30, with the last date for withdrawal on November 4.
In Jharkhand, the notifications for both phases will be issued on October 18 and 22. Nominations will open on those dates, closing on October 25 and 29. Scrutiny will take place on October 28 and 30, with the last date for withdrawal on October 30 and November 1.
Voter Information and Political Landscape
The total electorate in Maharashtra is approximately 9.63 crore, comprising 4.77 crore men and 4.66 crore women. Jharkhand’s electorate stands at about 2.6 crore, with 1.31 crore men and 1.29 crore women. The Election Commission plans to set up 1,00,186 polling stations at 25,789 locations in Maharashtra, and 29,562 polling stations at 20,281 locations in Jharkhand.
In Maharashtra, the ruling MahaYuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena, and National Congress Party, will face off against the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, comprising the Shiv Sena-UBT, Congress, and National Congress Party-Sharad Pawar. In Jharkhand, the contest will be between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and its allies, against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, which includes the Janata Dal-United and the Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas, as well as the All Jharkhand Students Union.
