X Corp Bans Over 1.9 lakh Accounts In India, Citing Policy Violations

X Corp, led by Elon Musk, has enforced stringent measures in India, banning over 1.9 lakh accounts between 26 May and 25 June.

The microblogging platform primarily took actions against accounts that promoted child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, and terrorism.

According to the company’s monthly report under the new IT Rules, 2021, X Corp received 12,570 complaints from Indian users during this period.

Among these, there were 55 grievances appealing account suspensions, and 4 accounts had their suspensions overturned after review.

“We received 61 requests for general account-related queries,” stated the company, reflecting on its interaction with users during the reporting period.

The majority of complaints from India focused on issues such as ban evasion (5,289), sensitive adult content (2,768), hateful conduct (2,196), and abuse/harassment (1,243).

In the previous reporting period (26 April to 25 May), X Corp had already banned 2,29,925 accounts in India and removed 967 accounts for promoting terrorism.

The firm’s proactive stance aligns with efforts to maintain platform integrity and adhere to local regulations, marking a continued effort to safeguard user experience and uphold community standards.
