Indian benchmark equity indices closed firmly higher on Monday after reports of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran improved global risk sentiment and reduced geopolitical uncertainty in the market.
The BSE Sensex climbed 736.38 points, or 0.97 per cent, to settle at 76,264.33. The NSE Nifty advanced 231 points, or 0.98 per cent, to close at 23,853.90.
Market experts said the 24,000 level remains a crucial near-term resistance zone for the Nifty. They noted that the 23,800 mark continues to serve as an important support area.
Sustaining above this level will remain essential for preserving the market’s positive momentum.
Among Nifty constituents, Trent, Shriram Finance and HDFC Life Insurance emerged as the leading gainers as investors increased exposure to select frontline stocks.
The broader market also participated in the rally. The Nifty MidCap index gained 1.29 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index rose 1.11 per cent, reflecting widespread buying interest.
Sector-wise, real estate counters led the advance. The Nifty Realty index jumped more than 4 per cent during the session.
The Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Auto indices also outperformed as investors favoured domestic consumption-oriented sectors.
In contrast, pharmaceutical shares underperformed.
The Nifty Pharma index finished as the weakest sectoral performer despite the broader market strength.
Investor confidence improved after reports indicated that Washington and Tehran agreed to a peace arrangement aimed at ending the four-month conflict in West Asia. Both nations reportedly announced an immediate halt to military operations.
Analysts said the development eased concerns over regional instability and potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
The agreement also strengthened expectations of stable crude oil prices, a factor widely viewed as favourable for India’s economy and corporate profitability.
