Sensex and Nifty closed higher on Tuesday, extending their winning run as investors welcomed the US-Iran agreement and increased exposure to risk assets.
The development improved global sentiment and supported buying across Indian markets.
The Sensex advanced 544.15 points, or 0.71 per cent, to finish at 76,808.48. The Nifty climbed 135.25 points, or 0.57 per cent, to settle at 23,995, ending just below the significant 24,000 mark.
Market experts said the 24,000 psychological level remains the immediate hurdle for the Nifty. They noted that a sustained breakout above this zone could strengthen bullish momentum and push the index towards the 24,200-24,400 range. Analysts also identified 23,900 as the key support level.
Strong buying in heavyweight stocks supported the market rally.
HCLTech, Tata Consumer Products and Bajaj Finserv emerged among the top gainers on the Nifty and helped lift benchmark indices.
The positive trend extended beyond frontline stocks. The Nifty MidCap index gained 0.41 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index rose 0.42 per cent, reflecting broader investor participation.
Among sectoral performers, real estate, media and consumer durable stocks led the advances.
The Nifty Realty, Nifty Media, and Nifty Consumer Durables indices outperformed the wider market during the session.
Metal shares remained under pressure. The Nifty Metal index ended as the weakest-performing sectoral gauge of the day.
IndiGo, UltraTech Cement, Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Steel, State Bank of India and Sun Pharma featured among the major laggards on the Sensex.
Analysts said easing geopolitical uncertainty strengthened investor confidence and supported equities. They also noted that the Indian rupee maintained a firm tone.
Market experts expect USDINR to retain a downward bias, with spot levels likely moving towards 94.10 in the near term.
