Global Capacity Centrea and Startups have created 8 crore jobs in India and a span of 5 years, claimed Labour Secretary, Sumita Dawra. The fields have emerged as key sectors in terms of creating employment for Indians.

Sumita Dwara, Labour Secretary in Ministry of Labour and Employment, said that together these two industries have created over 8 crore jobs in the India

Dwara was addressing an event in held in the national Capital by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Employers’ Federation of India (EFI). Dwara cited the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) as source of her claim.

She also disclosed the measures the ministry had implemented to make conducting business easier, including decriminalizing labor regulations and raising the percentage of women in the workforce.

She pointed out that measures like labor welfare and social security are likely to fuel inclusive growth in India.

“29 labour laws had been codified into four labour laws. A national career service portal is active and data from the Skills Ministry is being integrated,” Sumita Dwara said, adding to her claim.

Meanwhile, the government has also constituted a task force to study the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the future of work, the senior official said, calling for more research.

She also added to her point and said that India has nearly 1 crore gig worker and the gig economy is likely to give employment to about 2.4 crore people by 2030
