Indian equity benchmark indices closed higher on Thursday, with late buying in PSU bank, healthcare, metal and realty stocks helping the Sensex rise 254.36 points to 77,409.98 and the Nifty gain 82.30 points to 24,168.00, although weakness in IT shares capped gains.
Market sentiment improved during the latter half of the trading session, helping the benchmarks recover and finish in the green.
Buying interest in public sector banks, healthcare and real estate stocks also supported broader market sentiment.
Among Nifty stocks, Adani Enterprises, InterGlobe Aviation and Max Healthcare Institute emerged as the top gainers.
On the Sensex, Adani Ports, InterGlobe Aviation and Trent were among the key contributors to the day’s gains. NTPC, Bharat Electronics Limited, HDFC Bank and State Bank of India also supported the market’s advance.
The broader market also remained firm, with the Nifty MidCap index rising 0.41 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index advancing 0.44 per cent.
Sectorally, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Healthcare, Nifty Realty and Nifty Consumer Durables outperformed the broader market. The Nifty Healthcare index led gains, climbing 0.98 per cent.
Commenting on the Nifty outlook, analysts said 24,200 has emerged as the immediate resistance level.
“A sustained breakout above this level would reinforce bullish momentum and could pave the way for an extension of the rally towards the 24,400 region, which represents the next significant upside target,” an analyst said.
“On the downside, the psychological 24,000 mark is expected to act as an important immediate support level. Holding above this zone will be crucial to preserving the ongoing recovery structure and maintaining the positive momentum. A decisive break below 24,000 could trigger fresh profit booking and drag the index towards the 23,900 support region,” a market expert mentioned.
The rupee strengthened by around 16 paise to 94.32, marking its fifth consecutive session of gains.
