Indian equity markets ended the week with solid gains, marking the fourth consecutive week of advances for the benchmark indices.
The Nifty climbed 0.89 per cent over the week and finished Friday 0.39 per cent higher at 24,270. The Sensex also closed in positive territory, rising 261 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 77,763, while recording a weekly gain of 0.86 per cent.
The week opened on a subdued note as investors booked profits amid concerns over the sustainability of the US-Iran peace arrangement, expectations of a muted earnings season and uneven monsoon progress.
Confidence gradually improved as crude oil prices continued to decline and expectations of a softer global interest-rate cycle gathered momentum.
At the same time, comments from the US Federal Reserve Chair and weaker US employment data strengthened expectations that global central banks could adopt a more accommodative monetary policy.
Optimism surrounding the India-Japan summit also encouraged investors, with hopes of stronger cooperation in trade, defence, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and a rupee-yen settlement mechanism.
Real estate, pharmaceutical and healthcare shares delivered the strongest gains during the week, while PSU banking and energy stocks lagged behind the broader market.
Information technology stocks also staged a recovery as investors covered short positions and remained optimistic about the sector’s growing opportunities in enterprise artificial intelligence.
Broader market indices also posted healthy gains. The Nifty Midcap100 advanced 0.64 per cent during the week, while the Nifty Smallcap100 outperformed with a 2.05 per cent rise.
Key Levels to Watch
Analysts expect the Nifty to face immediate resistance near 24,400, while support is likely around 24,200 and then 24,000. Bank Nifty is expected to find support in the 57,500-57,600 range, with resistance placed between 58,200 and 58,300.
Investors will now turn their attention to the US FOMC meeting minutes, the upcoming corporate earnings season, the progress of the monsoon, domestic credit growth and ongoing trade discussions involving India, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
