Indian equity markets closed higher on Tuesday as improved global sentiment, easing geopolitical concerns, and late-session buying pushed the Sensex up 394.50 points to 73,918.76 and the Nifty 119.10 points to 23,242.10.
Market experts said Nifty must sustain levels above 23,300 to extend its recovery towards the 23,450-23,550 zone, which remains the next major resistance area. They added that 23,100 now serves as an immediate support level.
A decisive breach below 23,000 could trigger profit-taking and pull the index towards the 22,800–22,700 range.
Investor optimism improved after US President Donald Trump indicated that diplomatic discussions with Iran were progressing following a pause in hostilities between Iran and Israel.
The development boosted risk appetite across global markets and supported domestic equities.
Broader markets also participated in the rally.
The Nifty MidCap index gained 1.35 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index rose 1.69 per cent.
Among Nifty constituents, InterGlobe Aviation, Jio Financial Services and Eicher Motors emerged as the leading gainers and contributed significantly to the upward move.
Sector-wise, PSU banking shares spearheaded the advance, with the Nifty PSU Bank index surging more than 3 per cent.
Realty, automobile and financial services stocks also attracted strong buying interest.
The Nifty IT and Nifty Media indices closed lower and underperformed the broader market.
Analysts said late-session buying helped benchmark indices finish firmly in positive territory despite mixed sectoral trends.
