According to a statement from the labour ministry, the point-to-point rate of inflation, based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL, stood at 6.31 per cent and 6.16 per cent in June 2023, compared to 5.99 per cent and 5.84 per cent in May 2023, and 6.43 per cent and 6.76 per cent during the same period of the previous year (June 2022).

Furthermore, food inflation also experienced an increase, reaching 7.03 per cent and 6.70 per cent in June, compared to 6.31 per cent and 6.07 per cent in May, and 5.09 per cent and 5.16 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The rise in the general index of AL and RL was mainly attributed to the food group, contributing to the extent of 9.59 points and 8.96 points, respectively. This increase was primarily due to the rise in prices of various food items, such as rice, pulses, milk, meat goat, fish-fresh/dry, gur, chillies-green/dry, garlic, ginger, onion, vegetables & fruits, etc.

The index variations varied across different states. In the case of AL, 17 states experienced an increase of 2-20 points, while Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir recorded a decrease of 4 points and 18 points, respectively. Kerala remained unchanged. Tamil Nadu secured the top spot on the index table with 1,391 points, while Himachal Pradesh stood at the bottom with 914 points.

Similarly, in the case of RL, 18 states observed an increase of 1-20 points, with Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir experiencing a decrease of 2 points and 16 points, respectively.
