Pranav Adani Launches Dharavi Rehabilitation Construction With Bhoomi Poojan At Matunga Site

Pranav Adani, Director of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), performed Bhoomi Poojan at the 22-acre Matunga railway site on Monday, marking the start of rehabilitation construction for Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest informal settlements, which houses more than one million people.

Adani Navbharat Developers Private Limited (ANDPL), the project’s special purpose vehicle, will provide eligible residents with 350-square-foot homes under the in-situ rehabilitation scheme.

The project comprises 10 towers with 10,432 rehabilitation apartments and 1,379 commercial and industrial units.

“Every family deserves a home where they feel secure and can plan for the future,” Adani said, highlighting the project’s aim of creating better living conditions for Dharavi’s families.

Eligible Residents to Receive Homes in Phases

Eligible residents from Sectors 6 and 1 will receive homes at Matunga first. The project will then allocate nearly 4,500 apartments to other eligible Dharavi residents on a priority basis.

ANDPL will hand over the towers to the Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority (DRP/SRA) in three phases: the first five by March 2029, the next two by August 2029 and the remaining three by August 2030.

Maharashtra Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development Aseem Kumar Gupta attended as Guest of Honour. DRP/SRA Chief Executive Officer Mahendra Kalyankar also joined the ceremony.

Kalyankar said the project would focus on providing safe, modern homes and the infrastructure needed to improve residents’ quality of life.

Modern Facilities and Long-Term Maintenance

Each tower will have 37 to 39 storeys, passenger lifts and dedicated fire lifts. Planned amenities include a kindergarten, community hall, podium gardens, seating areas, society offices and places of worship.

ANDPL will maintain the buildings and shared infrastructure for 10 years after handover. The wider redevelopment plan also envisages shops, schools, healthcare facilities, parks, public transport and essential services within a 15-minute walk.

The construction launch follows the inauguration of the Dharavi Experience Centre by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Gandhi Jayanti.

The centre showcases proposed homes and neighbourhood facilities through sample apartments, a 3D walkthrough and interactive displays.
