Agriculture remains central to India’s economy and society.
Over the last eleven years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has ushered in a farmer-first approach through the ‘Beej Se Bazaar Tak’ initiative.
This holistic strategy has aimed to enhance farmer income, leverage technology, and boost rural resilience.
To support this transformation, government allocations to agriculture have surged over fivefold- from ₹27,663 crore in 2013–14 to ₹1,37,664 crore in 2024–25.
This increased funding has strengthened infrastructure, innovation, and farmer welfare schemes across the country.
Foodgrain production rose from 265.05 million tonnes in 2014–15 to an estimated 347.44 million tonnes in 2024–25.
The push for nutrition-rich, climate-resilient crops, such as pulses, millets, and oilseeds, has also seen marked growth, fostering sustainability and food security.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) system has been significantly bolstered.
Between 2014 and 2025, procurement of 14 Kharif crops reached 7,871 LMT—up from 4,679 LMT in the previous decade.
MSP for wheat rose from ₹1,400 in 2013–14 to ₹2,425 in 2024–25, while that for paddy increased from ₹1,310 to ₹2,369.
Payments to farmers have more than doubled, with pulses and oilseeds also receiving greater procurement support.
The PM-KISAN scheme has revolutionised farmer income security, directly transferring ₹3.7 lakh crore to over 11 crore farmers through transparent DBT.
Meanwhile, 7.71 crore Kisan Credit Cards have enabled access to credit worth ₹10 lakh crore. The credit limit has been raised from ₹3 to ₹5 lakh.
The government has promoted sustainable farming through massive investments in irrigation and crop insurance.
The PM Fasal Bima Yojana has covered over 63 crore farmers, disbursing ₹1.75 lakh crore in claims.
The PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana has invested ₹93,000 crore in irrigation.
Simultaneously, 1.75 crore Soil Health Cards have been issued, and 8,272 testing labs have been upgraded to promote balanced fertilisation.
These interventions have laid the foundation for a prosperous agricultural future.
Beyond enhancing yield, the reforms empower farmers with dignity, economic security, and modern tools.
Under PM Modi’s decisive leadership, Indian agriculture is becoming more resilient, competitive, and inclusive.
