On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the establishment of ‘PM MITRA mega textile parks’ in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, claiming that they will draw massive investments and generate lakhs of jobs.
PM Modi Tweeted, “PM MITRA mega textile parks will boost the textiles sector in line with 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) vision. Glad to share that PM MITRA mega textile parks would be set up in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP and UP”, through his official Twitter handle.

According to the Ministry of Textiles, investments totaling approximately Rs 1,536 crore have been made in the textile sector under the Production-Linked Incentive.
The government introduced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes in various sectors as part of its Atmanirbhar plan to make Indian manufacturers internationally competitive, attract investments, boost exports, integrate India into the global supply chain, and reduce reliance on imports.
The government has launched a scheme for the textile industry with an approved financial outlay of Rs10,683 crore to help textiles attain size and scale and become competitive.
From January 1, 2022, to February 28, 2022, applications for the PLI scheme for textiles were accepted through the portal.
A total of 67 applications were received, and the selection committee, headed by Secretary (Textiles), chose 64 candidates.
According to the ministry’s year-end review of the Department, 56 applicants have finished the mandatory criteria for the formation of a new business and have received approval letters.
