Indian equity benchmarks surged on Friday, driven by robust gains in metals and PSU bank stocks.

The Sensex closed 316 points, or 0.38 per cent higher, at 82,814. Nifty advanced 116 points, or 0.46 per cent, settling at 25,571.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index rose in tandem with the benchmark, gaining 0.48 per cent, whereas the NSE Smallcap 100 dipped 0.11 per cent. Nifty Next50 outperformed, jumping 0.62 per cent.

Most sectoral indices traded in positive territory. Nifty IT underperformed, shedding 0.98 per cent, while media declined 0.28 per cent. PSU banks led the upside with a 1.68 per cent rise, and Nifty Metal gained 1.25 per cent.

Market breadth leaned slightly negative as 2,043 shares advanced against 2,511 decliners. Analysts observed broad-based accumulation across sectors, with notable interest in power, capital goods, and FMCG stocks.

The session began on a volatile note but recovered steadily as investors bought quality stocks at lower levels. The rebound strengthened throughout the day as demand overtook early supply pressure.

However, analysts cautioned that near-term risks remain due to persistent US–Iran geopolitical tensions and mixed global signals. Overall trading conditions are expected to remain range-bound until clear directional triggers emerge.

The Indian rupee strengthened modestly by 0.02 per cent, trading at 90.99 against the US dollar.

Bank Nifty demonstrated technical resilience, sustaining above the 61,200 level, suggesting a structural shift from supply dominance to buyer control, according to market participants.

The 61,000 zone now functions as a critical support level, while 61,350–61,400 acts as immediate resistance. Analysts highlighted that these thresholds will guide near-term market movements and investor sentiment.

Investors are advised to monitor global developments and domestic sectoral momentum as markets maintain cautious optimism in the coming sessions.
