At the AI Impact Summit in Delhi on February 19, Jeet Adani of the Adani Group set out an ambitious doctrine for India’s artificial intelligence future, framing it as a defining political and strategic moment.
Addressing global leaders and innovators, Jeet Adani described the present era as a historic inflexion point. Electricity-powered industry.
Oil redraws geopolitics. The internet reshaped commerce. Artificial intelligence, he asserted, will now redefine sovereignty.
He argued that India’s central challenge no longer concerns adoption.
Instead, the nation must decide whether it will import intelligence or design it, consume productivity or generate it, integrate into foreign systems or construct its own architecture.
Adani emphasised that India rises not to dominate, but to stabilise and anchor a volatile world.
However, he cautioned that inclusion without capability signals weakness, while capability without sovereignty invites dependence.
He structured his address around three strategic pillars: energy sovereignty, compute and cloud sovereignty, and services sovereignty.
On energy, he stressed that AI operates on electricity. Fragile grids produce fragile intelligence systems.
Renewable expansion, solar, wind and storage, must therefore serve not only climate goals but national security.
He projected co-location of renewable clusters with AI data centres and prioritised grid resilience and storage stability.
Sovereignty Through Strategic Infrastructure
Turning to compute, he described sovereign processing capacity as modern strategic infrastructure.
Nations once built shipyards; today, they must build hyperscale data ecosystems.
India, he argued, must host critical AI workloads domestically to prevent external concentration of strategic leverage.
On services, he called for retaining India’s AI dividend. AI should first enhance domestic productivity, strengthening agriculture, education, logistics, healthcare, manufacturing and financial inclusion, before benefiting overseas markets.
Earlier this week, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, announced a $100 billion investment to develop a sovereign, green-powered AI infrastructure platform.
The initiative aims to catalyse a 5-gigawatt, $250 billion integrated energy-and-compute ecosystem.
Jeet Adani framed the commitment as a transition from importing intelligence to engineering it domestically.
He concluded that modern nationalism demands capability, resilience and disciplined execution to secure India’s imprint on the AI century.
