Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has assured airlines that redevelopment of the ageing Terminal 1 (T1) infrastructure will minimise operational disruption and respect historical slot allocations.

In a media statement, MIAL said Jeet Adani and Arun Bansal met the airport’s Airline Operators Committee (AOC) on Tuesday. They assured airline representatives that the airport would not disturb any slots during the winter schedule.

The meeting focused on coordinating the redevelopment while maintaining airline operations and improving airport infrastructure.

MIAL said a joint working group would work over the next two weeks to prepare an implementation plan for redeveloping Terminal 1.

Airlines have also committed to supporting the redevelopment process and beginning traffic balancing from the summer schedule, according to the statement.

The proposed coordination aims to help the airport manage infrastructure upgrades while addressing the operational requirements of airlines.

MIAL said it had assured full support to any airline seeking to shift operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

The discussions also covered engagement between the airport teams and individual airlines’ network and slot management teams. Both sides agreed to hold a follow-up meeting on October 28.

Until then, the teams will continue discussions with individual airlines to address operational concerns and coordinate the next steps.

MIAL said the meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing their commitment to developing Mumbai Airport’s infrastructure.

The airport operator said the shared objective was to bring the facility up to the standards that Mumbai’s residents deserve.

The statement was issued by a spokesperson for Mumbai International Airport Limited.

The proposed redevelopment and traffic-balancing measures will require continued coordination between the airport operator and airlines as planning progresses.
