India’s Plantation Crop Exports Hit Record $9.16 Billion In FY25

India’s plantation crop exports soared to an all-time high of $9.16 billion in FY2024-25, marking a 17.1% jump from the $7.82 billion recorded the previous year.

These exports, which include spices, coffee, tobacco, and tea, accounted for nearly 16% of India’s total $50 billion agricultural export basket in FY24.

According to the latest data from the Commerce Ministry, coffee and tobacco exports led the surge in value. Coffee shipments rose 40.3% year-on-year to $1.81 billion, up from $1.29 billion in FY24.

Meanwhile, tobacco exports climbed a remarkable 36.6%, reaching $1.98 billion, compared to $1.45 billion the previous year.

An industry expert highlighted the significance of this growth, noting that tobacco exports, which had hovered between $0.88 billion and $0.98 billion for nearly a decade, finally crossed the $1 billion mark in FY2022-23.

With this year’s performance, the industry now nears a new milestone—$2 billion in exports.

Spices And Tea Show Steady Gains

While spices posted modest growth, they continued to contribute the largest share of plantation crop exports.

In FY25, spices exports rose 4.7% to $4.45 billion, compared to $4.25 billion in the previous fiscal year.

Meanwhile, tea exports improved 10.8%, climbing to $920 million from $830 million.

The consistent performance of these traditional crops reflects India’s strong positioning in global commodity markets, especially amid growing demand for natural and organic products.

Outlook Remains Positive

With demand rising across international markets and government support for agricultural exports continuing, India’s plantation crop sector is poised for continued momentum.

Coffee and tobacco, in particular, may see further gains if favorable trade conditions persist and production remains stable.

Industry leaders anticipate that the sector’s share in total agricultural exports could grow even further in the coming years, especially as value-added exports, sustainable practices, and digital traceability gain traction across global supply chains.
