Indian Markets Open Firmly Higher On Global Optimism Despite Weekly Downtrend

Indian markets opened higher on Friday, led by major stocks and sectoral gains amid cautious investor sentiment.

Sensex, Nifty Extend Gains On Global Cues And Sustained Foreign Inflows

Indian stock markets commenced trading on a positive note on Friday, taking support from encouraging global market trends.

However, benchmark indices remain poised to close the week in the red for the third consecutive session, reflecting mixed investor sentiment.

In early trade, the Sensex rose by 384.25 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 84,866.06, while the Nifty gained 104 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 25,926.90.

Analysts noted that the Nifty continues to trade within a narrow 25,700–25,900 range, signalling trader indecision.

“Immediate resistance is seen at 25,900–26,000, with key support levels at 25,700 and 25,600,” market experts said.

Investors concentrated their buying on large-cap stocks, pushing TMPV, Eternal, Infosys, Power Grid, BEL, Sun Pharma, and Bajaj Finserv to emerge as top performers with gains of up to 1.5 per cent. Conversely, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel were among the few laggards in early trade.

Across sectors, all indices were trading higher. The Nifty Healthcare index led gains with a 1.14 per cent rise, closely followed by the Nifty Pharma index at 1.1 per cent. The Nifty Auto index also posted moderate gains between 0.5 and 0.57 per cent.

The broader markets reflected similar sentiment, with the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices up 0.45 per cent and 0.47 per cent, respectively.

Despite early gains, investors remained cautious ahead of crucial global and domestic triggers.

Global Data in Focus

Internationally, market participants are monitoring UK retail sales, euro area wage tracker data, and US Federal Reserve balance sheet numbers.

Domestically, eyes are on the RBI Monetary Policy Committee meeting minutes and the latest foreign exchange reserve data.

Foreign institutional investors turned net buyers on Thursday, acquiring shares worth Rs 614.26 crore, while domestic institutional investors also supported the market with net purchases of Rs 2,525.98 crore.

Overall, early market momentum reflects global optimism and strong sectoral buying, though investors remain cautious amid mixed signals and upcoming economic data.
