Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) announced today that Rohit Jawa will become the company’s new managing director and CEO on June 27, 2023.
The 56-year-old Jawa is the current Unilever Transformation Chief in London. Sanjiv Mehta, the company’s current CEO, will step down. HUL announced that Rohit Jawa will join the company as CEO designate and full-time director on April 1, 2023. He will also assume the role of President of Unilever South Asia.
In 1988, he began his career with HUL as a management trainee. He led a significant transformation of Unilever China into a competitive, profitable, and consistent business, now Unilever’s third largest globally, as EVP for North Asia and chairman for Unilever China. As chairman of Unilever Philippines, he guided the company to become one of Unilever’s top ten markets worldwide.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Rohit Jawa graduated from St. Stephen College and later earned his MBA from FMS, University of Delhi. He also attended Harvard Business School’s advanced management program.
Sanjiv Mehta, the current CEO, took over the reins of HUL in October 2013, leading the company through a period of sustained growth. During his decade as CEO, the company’s turnover surpassed 50,000 crores, and its market capitalization more than quadrupled from $17 billion to $75 billion. He has led the company into future growth segments through several strategic mergers and acquisitions, including the merger of GSK Consumer Healthcare into HUL, one of the largest mergers in the country’s FMCG history.
