Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced a ₹50 hike in the price of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders, effective April 8.
The revision applies to both Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries and other consumers.
“For PMUY beneficiaries, the new price will be ₹550 per cylinder, up from ₹500. For others, the price will rise to ₹853 from ₹803,” the minister stated.
He added that LPG prices are subject to revision every two to three weeks.
This hike comes a week after oil marketing companies had reduced the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by ₹41.
In Delhi, the new price stands at ₹1,762 per cylinder.
India imports nearly 60% of its LPG requirements.
Domestic prices are directly influenced by global trends. From July 2023 to February 2025, international LPG prices surged by 63% — from $385/MT to $629/MT.
Despite this, the government had reduced the effective price for PMUY consumers from ₹903 in August 2023 to ₹503 in February 2025 — a 44% drop.
As of March 1, 2025, the number of beneficiaries under the PMUY scheme reached 10.33 crore, while the total number of active domestic LPG consumers stood at 32.94 crore.
The last revision in domestic LPG prices was in August 2024, making this the first increase in eight months.
