In a major push to support scientific research and innovation, the Government of India has raised the no-quotation procurement limit from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh, aiming to simplify General Financial Rules (GFR) and reduce delays in acquiring scientific equipment and consumables.
Announcing the decision on Saturday, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, said the reforms will empower young researchers, startups, and research institutions by enhancing flexibility and autonomy.
“This is encouraging news and a major breakthrough for young, ambitious startups, innovators, and researchers,” he posted on social media.
The minister emphasised that the relaxed rules will enable faster innovation and reduce red tape in procurement processes.
