Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani highlighted Jharkhand’s untapped economic strength on Tuesday, calling the state, particularly Dhanbad, a powerful engine of future growth.
Speaking at IIT-ISM Dhanbad during its Centenary Foundation Day celebrations, he emphasised that Jharkhand is on the cusp of rapid development, backed by natural resources, skilled youth, and upcoming investments.
Adani said he sees ‘tremendous opportunities’ in the state and believes its growth trajectory will accelerate in the coming years.
When asked about specific investment plans for Dhanbad, he confirmed that ‘investments will come soon’, indicating that the group is preparing for fresh economic commitments in the region.
He strongly defended the mining sector, calling it the backbone of all modern industries. “People may call mining the old economy, but without it, there is no new economy,” he asserted, underscoring the sector’s continuing relevance in India’s industrial journey.
Earlier, Adani reiterated a major commitment by the conglomerate: an investment of over $75 billion in energy transition over the next five years. He stressed that the Adani Group is aggressively expanding its renewable energy footprint and aims to build the world’s fastest-growing green energy company.
State Poised for Transformation
According to Gautam Adani, the global energy transition is emerging as one of the biggest industries of this century, projected to be worth trillions of dollars.
He believes this shift will enable the rise of electricity-led manufacturing, green steel, green fertilisers, a hydrogen-based industrial ecosystem, and digital-first infrastructure that supports artificial intelligence and future technologies.
“This transition will support electricity-based manufacturing, green steel, green fertilisers, the hydrogen ecosystem, and critical infrastructure powering AI and digital economies,” he explained, reinforcing the scale of the upcoming industrial transformation.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with a narrative emerging from COP-30 in Brazil, where India’s sustainability ranking was downgraded due to ongoing coal auctions and the absence of a firm coal phase-out timeline. Adani argued that such assessments fail to capture India’s balanced, pragmatic approach toward development and energy needs.
At IIT-ISM Dhanbad, Adani announced impactful academic initiatives as well.
The group will offer 50 annual paid internships to third-year students and establish the Adani 3S Mining Excellence Centre, aimed at advancing mining research and student upskilling.
Deputy Director Prof. Dheeraj Kumar thanked Adani for motivating students with his call to ‘dream boldly, strive continuously, embrace innovation, and contribute to building a self-reliant India’.
The announcement sparked enthusiasm among students aspiring for hands-on industry exposure.
With rising investments, a strong focus on innovation, and renewed emphasis on sustainable energy, Jharkhand’s economic landscape may soon witness a significant shift, one that aligns with Adani’s vision of a stronger, greener, and future-ready India.
